A brilliant quality unmounted mint example with full original gum, (hinged on margin only). In 1884 St. Helena faced shortages of certain denominations and responded by surcharging existing Queen Victoria stamps with new values. During the overprinting process, one sheet received a second impression of the surcharge, creating the famous 'Double Surcharge'
